“Slam for Christ” was the first event organized by the company. The vision was to encourage the play of basketball and instill a level of discipline in the players of the game. The event which took place from 17th-20th October, 2007 brought together eight (8)Senior High Schools thus Lincoln Community School (LCS), Ghana International School (G.I.S), Accra High , Presbyterian Boys (PRESEC-Legon), St Thomas Aquinas , Labone , Accra Academy and Armed Forces Senior High Schools. The competition also brought together sports masters, headmasters/teachers, the Head of Sports Department -Ghana Education Service, Ghana Basketball Association officials. Also in attendance were the Marketing manager of the Chiropractic and Wellness centre (Ghana) and a representative from Glanderson Builderspak ltd. The event was supported by Glanderson Builderspak ltd., the Chiropractic and Wellness Centre (Ghana), Pepsi Ghana Ltd. and Mercury Photo Lab. Ltd. Lincoln Community School and Ghana International School played host to the tournament. Many students thronged the place to cheer up their school teams to victory. It was all sports, fun and excitement as players and participants enjoyed the treat of the beautiful game, Basketball. The event was witnessed by at least hundred (100) participants on each day of the event. Alongside the main event was the sharing of evangelism tracts by a team of volunteers for the event. Oasis Generation Ltd., organized a peace walk in support of efforts to secure Peaceful elections in December 2008 dubbed “UNITY WALK 2008” on the theme “TOGETHER WE STAND”.
This event was held on Saturday October 11, 2008 at 6:30am. The Route was Kwame Nkrumah Circle (Freedom and Justice Park) through Kwame Nkrumah Avenue-Kimbu, Kojo Thompson road and back to the Freedom and Justice park where UNITY STATEMENTS were made by Stakeholders, Political Party Leaders, Religious Leaders, et cetera.
For the year 2008, Oasis Generation Ltd., chose to organize UNITY WALK as our contribution towards securing a peaceful, free and fair election because we believe that as a nation (Ghana), our modest economic, political and social achievements in the last 16 years is in no small part a result of the Peace and Stability we have enjoyed over the years. For this reason it is very important that as a nation we come together to walk side by side as a symbol of Peace and Unity of purpose, irrespective of our political affiliation to ensure a Peaceful Elections 2008.
In the wake of all the sad and unfortunate stories that we hear from other African countries after their Elections, mother Ghana needed all her children to each contribute their quota for a Successful, Peaceful, Free and Fair election through events such as the Unity Walk to promote and educate all Ghanaians ahead of the Elections which took place on December 7, 2008.
Our objective for this project was to create a single non-partisan platform for all Political Party Leaders and Stakeholders to declare their support for peace and harmony in the elections. This was achieved at the end of the event with the continued evidence of peace we are enjoying after the elections. Above all, we demonstrated to the public that irrespective of our political affiliations we are one people. The message of peace was carried out through placards, t-shirts, the print media and a television station. |
